UK-based GRAHAM has secured the lead construction contract for Project Atlas, a new development that will deliver upgraded offices and laboratories for Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. The project forms part of a broader investment in forensic infrastructure across the region.

The scheme is designed to provide modern, fit-for-purpose workspace to support FSNI’s operational needs within the criminal justice system. Construction is scheduled to commence at the end of the current financial year following a six-month detailed design phase.

FSNI has operated from the Seapark site since 1992, with The Locard Building laboratory opening in November 2015. The new facilities will replace older infrastructure and include purpose-built laboratories alongside thoughtfully designed outdoor areas aimed at improving staff well-being.

Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long highlighted the significance of the project, noting that it supports FSNI’s continuing innovations and the delivery of valued forensic services. GRAHAM COO Jonathan Hall confirmed the company’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities in collaboration with FSNI.

This award follows GRAHAM Interior Fit-Out’s recent £20m contract to renovate His Majesty's Revenue and Customs office complex in Telford, Shropshire, reflecting the firm’s growing footprint in large-scale public sector projects.

Project Atlas is expected to enhance operational efficiency and ensure that FSNI staff have access to modern facilities capable of meeting evolving forensic requirements. The development aligns with wider efforts across Northern Ireland to strengthen justice sector infrastructure and support high-quality forensic outcomes.
